Terms of Use

Last updated: June 27, 2026

Welcome to game-writing.com, the official website of the IGDA Game Writing SIG. By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.

Who we are

The Game Writing SIG is the world’s first and oldest professional organization for game writers. We operate as an official Special Interest Group in partnership with the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). These terms cover your use of this website. Our wider community spaces, such as our Discord server and IGDA membership, are also governed by IGDA’s terms and the IGDA Code of Conduct, along with any community guidelines we publish.

Using the website

You are welcome to read, share, and link to our content. In return, we ask that you use the site lawfully and respectfully. You agree not to:

Our community spaces have their own rules. Participation there is subject to our Code of Conduct and to moderation by the SIG Committee.

Content and intellectual property

The articles, design, logos, brand assets, and other materials on this site are owned by the IGDA Game Writing SIG, the IGDA, or our contributors, and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may share and link to our content for personal and non-commercial purposes with credit to the Game Writing SIG. Please do not republish whole articles or reuse our logos and brand assets without asking us first.

Writers and guests who contribute to the site, such as blog authors and members featured in spotlights, keep the rights to their own work and give us permission to publish and promote it on our platforms. Names, logos, and trademarks of other companies that appear on the site, including our partners and sponsors, belong to their respective owners.

Job listings and external resources

Our website may share job listings, events, and resources from across the industry as a service to our community. We do not run these external opportunities, and we cannot guarantee that any listing is current, accurate, or legitimate. Any application, contact, or agreement you make with a third party is between you and that party, so please use your own judgment.

Embedded games and third-party content

Some pages include interactive games and other content served by third parties, such as Arcweave. That content loads when you choose to open it and is provided under the terms and policies of the company that hosts it. We are not responsible for third-party content or services.

Our site links to other websites that we do not control. We provide these links for convenience, and we do not endorse or take responsibility for the content, products, or practices of those sites.

The site is provided “as is”

We are a volunteer-run organization, and we offer this website for the benefit of our community. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that the site will always be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted, or that the information on it is complete or current.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the IGDA Game Writing SIG, the IGDA, and our volunteers and committee members will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this website. Your use of the site is at your own risk.

Changes

We may update this website and these terms from time to time. When we change the terms, we will update the date at the top of this page. By continuing to use the site after a change, you agree to the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the applicable laws of the United States, consistent with our partnership with the IGDA, and without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under the laws of the country where you live.
