Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 27, 2026
The IGDA Game Writing SIG runs this website, game-writing.com, for our community of game writers. We care about your privacy, and the short version is simple: we collect very little, we do not sell your information, and we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking.
This policy explains what we collect when you visit game-writing.com, why, and the choices you have. We are an official volunteer-run Special Interest Group operating in partnership with the International Game Developers Association (IGDA). This policy covers our website only. When you join the IGDA, register through IGDA systems, or use IGDA’s own website, the IGDA Public Privacy Policy applies. When you use a third-party platform we link to, such as our Discord server or our social media pages, that platform’s privacy policy applies.
The short version
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
- Our website analytics are anonymous and do not identify you.
- We collect personal details only when you choose to give them to us, such as by emailing us or filling out a survey.
Information you choose to give us
If you email us at info@game-writing.com, we keep your message and email address so we can reply and follow up. If you respond to a survey we host through an embedded form, such as a Google Form on our survey page, your answers go to the service that powers that form and are handled under that service’s privacy policy. You can always choose not to fill out a survey.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, ours records basic technical information when you visit. Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes standard server data such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of your request in order to deliver the site and keep it secure.
We also use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to understand how the site is performing and which pages are popular. These tools are privacy-friendly by design. They do not use cookies, they do not store your IP address, and they report only aggregated data that cannot identify you.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use any cookies for tracking, analytics, or advertising. Your browser may store small preferences on your own device, such as your light or dark theme choice and the page you came from, so the site works the way you expect. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Some content we embed from other companies may set its own cookies when you choose to interact with it, such as a game embedded from Arcweave, a calendar you subscribe to through Google, or a form hosted by Google. Those cookies are controlled by those companies under their own policies.
How we use information
We use the limited information above to operate and improve the website, respond to messages you send us, understand general traffic patterns, and protect the site against abuse or technical problems. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other websites.
Services we rely on
We keep our toolset small. The third-party services that help us run the site include:
- Vercel, for website hosting, performance monitoring, and anonymous analytics.
- Google, when you choose to open or subscribe to our events calendar or fill out an embedded survey form.
- Arcweave, which hosts the interactive games you can play on our site when you click to load them.
- GitHub, which stores the site’s content and is used by our volunteer editors to manage the site.
- Our social platforms, including Discord, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and X, which you reach through links and which operate under their own policies.
How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only with the service providers above so they can perform their function, when we are required to by law, or when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect the safety of our community or the rights of others.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it. Messages you send us are kept for as long as it takes to help you and for our records. Server logs and analytics are retained according to our providers’ standard periods. Because our analytics are anonymous and short-lived, there is little to keep.
Your choices and rights
You can contact us at info@game-writing.com at any time to ask what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. Since we hold very little, this is usually quick.
Depending on where you live, such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights over your personal information under local law, and we will honor those rights. For personal information held by the IGDA through membership or its own systems, please use the contact options in the IGDA Public Privacy Policy.
You can also limit common web tracking in general by using your browser’s privacy settings, a “Do Not Track” signal, or a content blocker. Our analytics are already anonymous, so this does not change what we can see about you.
Children
This website is intended for game writers and industry professionals and is not directed to children under 16, consistent with IGDA’s policy. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@game-writing.com and we will remove it.
Visitors outside the United States
Our website and hosting are based in the United States. If you visit from another country, any technical information processed as described above will be handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Links to other sites
Our site links to other websites, including job listings, partner organizations, and social platforms. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our website or our tools change. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will share significant changes with our community.
